Pee-Wee Baseball (3-4)

Pee-Wee Tee Ball is the earliest entry level division for players, ages 3-4. The experience is grounded in fun, and basic fundamentals while also being a key to growing a child’s love for the game.

Parents and legal guardians of Pee-Wee players are crucial to the extension of the program, and their satisfaction is equally important to its success. The outreach and inclusion of this division sets the foundation for continued participation in the program.

The Pee-Wee Division is co-ed, and is structured as a baseball program.

Pee-Wee players use t-ball bats and balls (safety t-balls) designated specifically for use in this division.

The roster size for a Pee-Wee team averages 5-7 players, with a season featuring 1-2 games per week played with one during the week and one on Saturdays.  Games are 30 minutes in length and bat completely through the order before switching sides.

Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in this entry level of Little League. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, umpires, local league board members and other volunteer positions within the league.

UNDER NEW LITTLE LEAGUE RULES - There are no boundaries for 4-7 year old players.

Rookie Baseball (6-8)

The Rookie Division (Machine Pitch) is for players who are Little League ages 7 and 8. Players who are league age 6 are able to play in the Rookie Division, provided they have played one year of T-Ball, additionally at the leagues discretion, children who are 9 years old may be allowed to play Rookie ball based on their comfort, skill and safety level.

There is no live pitching in this division but instead, the ball is "pitched" from a machine placed in front of the pitching mound. The rules and format of Machine Pitch are set up to be less intensive play than the upper levels and focus on the teaching and instructional aspects of the game. This is the first level where players begin to learn and play by most of the basic baseball rules.

By having pitches delivered from the machine versus a coach, players are able to more adequately develop hitting skills and positive habits while getting consistent pitches.

The Rookie Division is co-ed, and is structured as a baseball program.

Rookie players may use t-ball bats or a baseball bat. All bats must have the USA Baseball logo on them. This division uses actual baseballs designated for use in this division. The roster size for a Rookie team averages 10-13 players, with a season featuring 1-2 practices per week with two games played each week, typically with one during the week and one on Saturdays.  Games are a MINIMUM 90 minutes in length, but NOT to exceed 1:45.  Players are allowed 5 pitches in which they either put the ball in play, or they are retired as an out (foul balls are not included in the count). When a side achieves 3 outs, or scores 5 runs (whichever occurs first) that side is retired. A continuous batting order is used, requiring all players to bat in order and all players must play in the field a series of 6 consecutive outs (2 innings).

Parents and legal guardians of Tee Ball players are crucial to the extension of the program, and their satisfaction is equally important to its success. The outreach and inclusion of this division sets the foundation for continued participation in the local Little League program.

Each Little Leaguer is required to play one season of Tee Ball before being eligible to be evaluated by the local league officials for consideration to advance to a higher division of Little League baseball or softball. The Tee Ball Division is co-ed, and is structured as a baseball program.

Sport Parent Code of Conduct

We, the (the organization) Grand Mesa Little League, have implemented the following Sport Parent Code of Conduct for the important message it holds about the proper role of parents in supporting their child in sports. Any parent guilty of improper conduct at any game
or practice will be asked to leave the sports facility and be suspended from the following game. Repeat violations may cause a multiple game suspension, or the season forfeiture of the privilege of attending all games.

Preamble
The essential elements of character-building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles:

  • Trustworthiness,
  • Respect,
  • Responsibility,
  • Fairness,
  • Caring, and
  • Good Citizenship.

The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these “six pillars of character.”

I therefore agree

  1. I will not force my child to participate in sports.
  2. I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults.
  3. I will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.
  4. I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league.
  5. I (and my guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice or other sporting event.

  7. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well being of the athletes.
  8. I will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
  9. I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.
  10. I will teach my child that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.
  11. I will praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard, and make my child feel like a winner every time.
  12. I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  13. I will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit my child over winning. I will also de-emphasize games and competition in the lower age groups.
  14. I will promote the emotional and physical well- being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child to win.
  15. I will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches at the game field, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place.
